 Alice the Camel

One year we had taken the children down to an old peoples' home very close to the school.
The visit was for singing to them, and the piano belonged to one of the old residents.
She was quite a crotchety old lady and I used to have to ask if I could play the piano.

She would let me play, but she would sit right at the end and watch me and say to me "I hope you are not going to bang it" and all sorts of things.
We sang, and then the end came and the children wanted to sing their own songs, and the one they chose that particular day was called Alice the Camel.

Unbeknown to us, the lady who owned the piano was called Alice. She had an absolute strop and she shut the lid down of the piano, got her walking stick and stumped off out of the room - and I don't think we ever went back again.
